Our Story
Second Milieu was founded by Debbie Edwards, an Army veteran with almost a decade of service. Initially a truck driver, she quickly rose through administrative positions, ultimately becoming a respected leader in logistics and operations. Her approach to systems wasn’t built in a boardroom. It was forged in high-pressure environments where failure wasn’t an option.
That discipline followed her into the nonprofit sector and local government. Even in the most mission-driven spaces, she saw how the lack of internal systems made the work harder than it had to be. While helping to stand up a new department, the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Small Business, she noticed a pattern. Brilliant, capable leaders across nonprofits, city agencies, and growing firms were running on instinct and burnout, not infrastructure.
Whether it was the business enviorment of a startup, a law firm, a nonprofit, or a fast-scaling tech company, the problem was the same. Different sectors, same issues. No infrastructure, no operational backbone. Debbie kept stepping into the gap. Over time, her role evolved from fixer to architect, leading implementations, standing up high-performing teams, translating strategy into systems, and building infrastructure that didn’t just work but changed how leaders worked.
Second Milieu is the result of that arc, built to help leaders stop running on memory and start operating with intention. Debbie has helped small law firms and nonprofit teams untangle workarounds and align tools and workflows to build systems they trust.
She’s known for meeting overwhelmed leaders where they are, creating breathing room first, then quietly building the structure they didn’t know they needed. She’s helped leadership teams rebuild systems to reveal where true profitability comes from, develop pricing strategies, map performance data to growth decisions, and architect internal systems to support controlled scaling that teams can run and maintain without outside help.
Her work spans system design, infrastructure strategy, team enablement, and data visibility, all focused on strengthening the business environment. Her work is grounded in a simple belief: the right system should feel like confidence, not complexity.
She holds a Master of Arts from Cal State LA and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland.

What’s In A Name?
"Milieu" means the environment in which something develops. Second Milieu is a tribute to Debbie’s father, nicknamed Second as the second-born twin.
The name took on new meaning after he survived a 1963 explosion, suffering third-degree burns over 75 percent of his body. He lived the second half of his life as a visibly burned man, but did so with unwavering kindness. Even when the world didn’t return the kindness, he stayed in service to others, principled, present, and unapologetically himself.
He focused on resilience, outcomes, and humanity. That spirit shapes everything we do.
